Questions

How does the NeoPause quiz work?

Our quiz is designed to guide you based on your personal experience. By asking questions about your age, periods, symptoms, and whether you still have your ovaries, we can help identify which phase of the menopause transition you're likely in.

The results place you into one of six categories:

  • Pre-menopause

  • Perimenopause

  • Menopause

  • Early menopause

  • Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI)

  • Surgical menopause

While quiz outcomes are grounded in clinical understanding, they are meant as guidance, not a diagnosis. Every woman’s journey is unique, and sometimes stages like perimenopause, pre-menopause or early menopause can overlap or be unclear, or your symptoms might be caused by other health issues or even stress.

For deeper clarity, we always recommend discussing your results with a qualified healthcare professional.

Can I trust the quiz results?

Our quiz is carefully created by medical professionals and based on current clinical criteria—but it’s not a diagnostic tool. Think of it as a helpful map, not a definitive label. Your answers help point you in the right direction, offering insight, clarity, and next steps. If your symptoms are complex or uncertain, we encourage a conversation with a menopause-informed doctor for a more personalized assessment.

What do the different menopause stages mean?

Here’s a quick overview of the categories we use in the quiz:

  • Pre-menopause: This is the time before any noticeable changes in your periods or symptoms begin. Hormones are cycling regularly, and fertility is intact. But it’s the perfect time to start preparing for next stages and you will still get a lot of value in learning how to do so!

  • Perimenopause: The transition period before menopause, often starting in your 40s (sometimes earlier). Periods may become irregular, and symptoms like mood swings, sleep issues, hot flushes, or brain fog can appear. This stage can last up to 7-10 years before menopause starts (it can start as early as in your 30s!)

  • Menopause: Defined as 12 consecutive months without a period (not due to surgery or illness), typically around age 51. Hormone levels drop significantly during this time. Normal age for menopause is considered between 45 to 55.

  • Early menopause: When menopause occurs before age 45—either naturally or due to medical or surgical treatments.

  • Premature ovarian insufficiency (POI): When the ovaries stop functioning before age 40. It can happen naturally or due to surgery, illness, or genetics. Unlike menopause, ovarian function may still fluctuate over time.

Surgical menopause: When both ovaries are removed (oophorectomy), triggering an immediate and abrupt drop in hormones. Symptoms can be more intense, and medical support is often recommended.

Is HRT safe?

For most women, modern HRT is safe and effective—especially when started within 10 years of menopause onset. The benefits often outweigh the risks, including improvements in bone, brain, heart, and vaginal health. However, individual risks vary depending on your health history, age, and type of HRT. That's why personal consultation is essential. We also provide guidance on body identical HRT, which is the preferred form today based on international recommendations.

Are there natural options if I don’t want medication?

Yes, and they can be very effective for many symptoms. Lifestyle changes—like improving sleep, movement, nutrition, and stress management—can reduce hot flushes, improve mood, support brain function, and more. Evidence-based supplements, herbal options, and even emerging therapies (like NK3 receptor antagonists) may also play a role. Our course includes a full section on natural and complementary strategies so you can make informed, empowered choices.

Can I still get pregnant during perimenopause?

Yes. As long as you still ovulate—even irregularly—pregnancy is possible. That’s why contraception is still recommended until you’ve been period-free for 12 months (or 2 years if under 50). If you’re not planning to conceive, we’ll help you navigate the safest and most suitable options during this transition.

What is body identical vs. bioidentical HRT?

These terms often cause confusion:

  • Body identical HRT refers to regulated, pharmaceutical-grade hormones (like estradiol and micronised progesterone) that are chemically identical to those produced by your ovaries. These are backed by strong safety data and recommended by menopause societies worldwide.

  • Bioidentical HRT is a broader term and sometimes used for unregulated compounded hormones, which may vary in quality or dosage and lack large-scale safety trials.

We’ll help you understand the difference and make confident choices.

How do I access more help after the quiz?

Once you complete the quiz, you'll receive:

  • A personalised quiz result with key insights about your stage and symptoms.

  • Access to a free 3-day email course to help you understand what’s happening in your body and what you can do about it, with practical first steps.
